Breakthrough Facebook CoverAre you a young person aged between 14-24 years, living in the North Belfast, Shankill or Newtownabbey areas and looking to achieve new goals, develop new skills and get involved in training? If so, we have a new and exciting Breakthrough Programme that could be for you.

Breakthrough is a European Union PEACE IV funded project led by Ashton Community Trust and delivered in partnership with Cliftonville Community Regeneration Forum, Ardoyne Youth Enterprises, New Life City church, the YEHA Project, Street Beat, Newtownabbey Arts and Cultural Network (NACN) and Loughview Community Action Partnership (LCAP).

Young people taking part in the Breakthrough Programme will have the opportunity to get involved in team building days, a residential, volunteering, one-to-one mentoring support and group work to include personal development, citizenship and good relations. A menu of training is also available in the areas of Arts, Sports, Digital Imaging/Film Making, Creative Industries and Digital Fabrication. An incentive payment of £8 per day (subject to criteria) and childcare costs are available throughout the programme.

Young people are at the centre of the Breakthrough Programme and are actively engaged in the design of the programme, which will be facilitated by Youth Outreach Mentors across schools and partner organisations.

Nuala McCallum Breakthrough Manager explains, “This project is all about personal growth for our young people in Shankill, North Belfast and Newtownabbey and choice will play a central role. It is a youth centred intervention programme and we really want local young people aged between 14 and 24 to get involved and access a whole range of one to one support sessions and tailored opportunities. We want to inspire and encourage young people to use the Breakthrough Programme to develop life skills that matter to them which have been co-designed in such a way that we focus on meaningful activities that are adaptable, transferable and useful to our young people in the long run”
